Mirwaiz dares Govt to fight Hurriyat on political turfHurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday dared the PDP-BJP government in the State to fight Hurriyat leadership on the political turf instead of curbing their social, political and religious freedom.

“Under the Hindutva policy and RSS agenda, a particular thought is being promoted to create sectarian and sub- sectarian divide in Kashmir. Some groups are being funded by the Home Ministry to create sectarian strife,” Mirwaiz said while addressing a press conference here after chairing the party meet at Hurriyat headquarters, here.

He appealed people to maintain unity and brotherhood and foil such anti- Muslim conspiracies. “Sufism is the internal matter of Muslims and Islam”.

Asking GoI to stop interfering in the religious affairs of Muslims, Mirwaiz said, “We believe PDP is equally involved in this RSS-agenda, which is aimed at dividing us. These are our internal affairs and Indian PM Narendra Modi has nothing to do with Sufism”.

Taking a dig at Mehbooba Mufti led PDP-BJP coalition government, he said Kashmir has been turned into a police state.

“If this government thinks that putting curbs on religious, social and political rights of Hurriyat leadership will bring peace in the state then they are living in fool’s paradise,” Mirwaiz said.

He said curbs on social, religious and political freedom of the people has been routine affair of the state governments since 1990 but the present situation is worst kind of state terrorism.

“On one hand, Mehbooba-led government has been inviting tourists from the world to visit Kashmir while terming the situation peaceful in the state and on the other hand police has been preparing list of the youth in every district to harass them for raising their voice,” the Hurriyat (M) chairman said adding the youth are being asked to visit local police station once every week.

He said their only fault is that they have been raising their voices for public.

Mirwaiz alleged that under a well designed ploy, authorities are preventing people from offering prayers and curb religious activities at historic Jamia Masjid Nowhatta.

“We have been raising peoples’ issues from this place from past 300 years and government is deliberately curbing the religious activities at Jamia Masjid by turning it into a garrison every Friday,” he said.

Expressing his concern over use of excessive pellet guns against the peaceful protestors at Nowhatta, Mirwaiz said around 150 youth been hit by pellets and 12 have lost their eye sight in one or in both eyes.

“These atrocities are pushing youth to the wall,” he said.

Taking a dig at mainstream politicians, Mirwaiz said PDP’s slogan of healing touch has turned into killing touch for Kashmiris.

He said in power Mehbooba has forgotten all their slogans of battle of ideas, good governance, people-friendly governance and government is f now dealing every issue with “guns and bullets”.

Mirwaiz expressed his concern over continuous imprisonment of the Handwara girl saying in the name of protection, government has abducted her.

“Issues like Handwara are bound to happen till black laws like AFSPA are not revoked,” he said.

Mirwaiz said Hurriyat has been working to find alternatives of hartals to protest the killings and human rights violations in the valley.

“We have involved civil society members and taking suggestion from people of all sections of society to counter the state terrorism and human rights issues,” he said.
